The first year of the implementation of the EuroCC project and the establishment of the Croatian Competence Center for HPC

22. 10. 2021.

The University Computing Center SRCE and the partner institutions of the Croatian consortium marked a year of work on the establishment of the Croatian Center for Competences for High Performance Computing (HPC).

The Croatian Center of Competences for HPC focused most of its activities on the preparation and implementation of sector-specific one-day and two-day educational workshops on HPC for the public and private sectors. Information about the workshops is regularly published on the Center's website.

Activities for identifying small and medium-sized enterprises that could use the services of infrastructure providers of HPC services have also been intensified, with the aim of increasing the involvement of the public and private sector in the use of HPC technologies.

One of the key tasks of the EuroCC project is to provide access to new high-performance computing resources to users from 33 Member States of the European High-Performance Computing Joint Undertaking (EuroHPC JU).

These new HPC resources consist of seven supercomputers located in the Member States of the Joint Undertaking. The Croatian Competence Center for HPC provides support to all interested users when applying for the use of these resources and assistance in complying with their terms of use. In this way, the Center becomes a central place for the coordination of national initiatives, and by cooperating with other centers in the Member States of the Joint Undertaking, it facilitates access to the European HPC ecosystem for all its users.

At the end of one year of work on the implementation of activities, EuroHPC JU held a joint preliminary evaluation of the results of the EuroCC project and the partner CASTIEL project in the period from 12 to 14 October. During the three-day virtual evaluation, 33 presentations of the results of national competence centers for high performance computing were held, with a presentation of the work of the EuroCC Project Coordinator and CASTIEL project work packages in the areas of training, competence mapping, dissemination and industry cooperation.

More than 100 representatives of the national competence centers attended the virtual evaluation for HPC, and it was concluded that in the first year of implementation, the EuroCC project achieved most of its objectives planned for that year. You can find more about the Croatian Center of Competences for High Performance Computing on the Center's website (CRO).
