SRCE has participated in the MoodleMoot Global Online conference, which was held from 6 to 10 July 2020, with the presentation "Supporting teachers and students on Moodle in time of pandemic". The topic of the presentation was the experiences of the E-learning Centre in supporting higher education teachers in the transition to online teaching during a pandemic. The E-learning Centre at SRCE maintains the e-learning platform Merlin, based on Moodle, on which in this academic year over 9,000 teachers currently teach more than 83,000 students in nearly 23,000 e-courses.
The presentation was held on July 9 by Sandra Kučina Softić, PhD, Assistant Director for Education and user Support and Head of the E-learning Centre at SRCE and by Tona Radobolja, member of the E-learning Centre team.
The first MoodleMoot Global Online conference lasted five days with 250 presentations and interactive sessions. More than 1,300 participants from more than 120 countries and 60+ universities were registered.
At the time of the closure of higher education institutions, the challenge was to provide support to teachers who had to move classroom teaching to an online environment overnight. The additional challenge for teachers was a very strong earthquake that hit Zagreb in March. Nevertheless, the E-learning Centre has successfully provided and still provides support to higher education teachers and students in an online environment.
Support is available through the helpdesk and a number of guidelines, quick helps and recommendations prepared just for this occasion. In addition, a variety of online courses is available to teachers as well as online consultations so that teachers can easily organize their teaching in an online environment.
