SRCE participates as a partner in the project EGI Advanced Computing for EOSC (EGI-ACE) which began on January 1, 2021.
The goal of the EGI-ACE project is to build the foundations of a computer platform for the European Open Science Cloud (EOSC). The project coordinator is EGI Foundation and it will be implemented in cooperation with 32 other partners, including SRCE. The project activity in which SRCE and partner institutions GRNET and CNRS will participate is the construction, improvement and maintenance of the ARGO system. ARGO is a system for network monitoring of the EOSC service, sending notifications in case of incidents and reporting on the availability and reliability of the service. Monitoring the availability of EOSC services is key to providing reliable and quality services to researchers.
As part of the EOSC projects funded by EU Research and Innovation programme Horizon 2020, in addition to the EGI-ACE project, SRCE also participates in the EOSC-hub (Integrating and managing services for the European Open Science Cloud) and NI4OS-Europe (National Initiatives for Open Science in Europe) projects. Also, in the first half of 2021, the implementation of the EOSC Future project is expected to begin.
In addition to project activities, SRCE became a full member of the EOSC Association as well as a mandated organization of the Republic of Croatia with the role of coordinating national Open Science initiatives and building the National Open Science Cloud (NOSC).
EOSC was created as an initiative of the European Commission to support the development of Open Science and innovation by developing research infrastructures and unifying services, thus providing European scientists a virtual environment with open and seamless services for storage, management, analysis and re-use of research data, across borders and scientific disciplines by federating existing data infrastructures.
