The international conference "EGI 2021 Beyond the Horizon: Shaping the Digital Future" (October 19-21, 2021) is being held from 19 to 21 of October. The theme of this year’s conference is shaping the digital future through advanced computer services.
The aim of the conference is to encourage the community to cooperate on this topic. The conference will present how EGI is influencing the development of the digital future and the creation of a new research landscape shaped by the development of the European Open Science Cloud, the implementation of the new EU Framework Program for Research and Innovation - Horizon Europe and increasingly advanced services and innovative computational models that support research.
On the first day of the conference, the Director of SRCE, Ivan Marić, gave an invited lecture "SRCE - At the Very Heart of Digital Transformation of Science and Higher Education". After a brief review of the rich history of University Computing Centre SRCE for 50 years, he presented the contribution of SRCE to the digital transformation of the system of science and higher education in Croatia. He stressed the importance of joint construction, management and maintenance of national e-infrastructure and connecting national infrastructures with the European Research Area and the European Higher Education Area. In this way, SRCE enables the development of modern science and education and focuses on networking and building cooperation bridges, both in the national framework by encouraging inter-institutional cooperation and in the international framework by participating in numerous European projects.
A special review in the presentation was given to the importance of cooperation between SRCE and the EGI Association and the impact of this cooperation on the development of research in Croatia. He presented an overview of international projects organized by the EGI Association in which SRCE and other institutions from Croatia participate. In the final part of the lecture, the SRCE’s Director pointed out that the key to the success of SRCE are the employees who, each in their field of activity, enable it to achieve excellent results at the national level, but also in Europe. During the conference, a series of lectures and workshops will be held on the provision of services and solutions related to distributed computing and data analytics services, digital future predictions that include specific strategies of computer ecosystems, support for open science, etc. More information about the conference and presentations from the conference are available on EGI Conference 2021 web site.
