The Kick-off Meeting of the EOSC Future project was held on June 10, 2021 and gathered more than 120 participants, mainly representatives of the consortium and representatives of the institutions involved in the implementation of the project. EOSC Future will integrate, consolidate, and connect e-infrastructures, research communities, and initiatives in Open Science and further develop the EOSC Portal, EOSC-Core and EOSC-Exchange of the European Open Science Cloud (EOSC). EOSC Future will unlock the potential of European research via a vision of Open Science for Society by bringing all major stakeholders in the EOSC ecosystem together under one project umbrella to break the disciplinary and community silos.
At the Kick-off Meeting of the EOSC Future project, the work packages were presented, as well as the project activities that will be implemented during the 30 months of the project. The General Assembly of the EOSC Future project was held on June 8, 2021. The EOSC Future project began on April 1, 2021. and it is coordinated by the Digital Curation Unit, Institute for the Management of Information Systems, Athena Research Center.
In the EOSC Future project SRCE participates as a Linked Third Party of the EGI Foundation, one of the 36 partners in the project. Within the project, SRCE will continue the development of the federation service ARGO, which performs network monitoring of services included in EOSC, sending notifications in case of incidents and reporting on the availability and reliability of EOSC services. As the EOSC ecosystem will grow during the project, the challenges are enabling the monitoring of new types of services of varying complexity, providing support in the development of monitoring sensors, and interoperability and the ability to connect to external monitoring systems.
SRCE is actively involved in shaping Europe’s digital future as a partner in EOSC related projects. Since December 2020, SRCE is the EOSC Association member, also a mandate organization of the Republic of Croatia with the role of coordinating national initiatives for open science and building the Croatian Open Science Cloud (HR-OOZ).
EOSC was created as an initiative of the European Commission with the aim to develop a trusted, virtual, federated environment that cuts across borders and scientific disciplines to store, share, process and re-use research digital objects (like publications, data, and software) following FAIR principles.
As part of the EOSC related projects funded through the Horizon 2020 programme SRCE, in addition to the EOSC Future project, also participates in the EGI-ACE (EGI Advanced Computing for EOSC) and NI4OS-Europe (National Initiatives for Open Science in Europe) projects.
