UNIC Working Conference 2025 – Unlocking Transformational Value

16. 12. 2025.

Experts from SRCE and a delegation of the University of Zagreb are participating in the UNIC working conference “Unlocking Transformational Value”, held at the University of Deusto in Bilbao, Spain, from 4 to 6 November 2025. The UNIC Alliance is a network of ten universities from post-industrial cities, including the University of Zagreb. As part of its engagement in UNIC projects, SRCE has developed the UNIC Virtual Campus.

The Virtual Campus is an information system that serves as a catalogue of courses and programmes within the Alliance. It enables inter-university data exchange that was previously not possible, supporting virtual mobility and facilitating the implementation of physical mobility. By establishing such virtual campuses, support is provided for student virtual mobility, the issuance and verification of European Student Cards, the delivery of joint study programmes, as well as the presentation of research results and networking among researchers from universities participating in the Virtual Campus.

As part of the workshop “Tools for Digital Collaboration and Digital Sovereignty”, Alen Novosel, Head of Virtual Campus Development, presented the current functionalities of the Virtual Campus, with a particular focus on support for student virtual mobility and researcher networking. He highlighted the importance of the Virtual Campus as a central digital tool of the Alliance. The Virtual Campus relies on existing international systems and standards, including the participation of electronic identity providers from all universities in the eduGAIN system, the mandatory assignment of the European Student Identifier (ESI) to students, and interoperability with ORCID and OpenAIRE systems. The importance of integrating the Virtual Campus with local systems used by Alliance universities was also emphasised, primarily Student Management Systems (SMS) and Learning Management Systems (LMS), in order to provide students with a seamless study experience. The system developed by SRCE was also presented at other related workshops during the conference.
