10th anniversary of Research Data Alliance

18. 12. 2023.

In 2023, the Research Data Alliance (RDA) marked its 10th anniversary by organizing a series of international and regional events and activities. The main objectives were aimed to reflect on the past, present, and future of the RDA, reinforce our mission, vision, and guiding principles, recognize our community members, partners, and funders, and celebrate the community’s successes with the wider research data community. The RDA Secretariat organized over 50 events, where each month of 2023, from February to November, was dedicated to a specific theme related to research data management of relevance to the RDA community.

February was dedicated to FAIR data, software, and hardware; March was a decade of data and the 20th RDA plenary meeting was held, April centered around data in healthcare and medicine, May on metadata and technical infrastructure, June on agriculture and environment data, July on research data policies, August on disciplinary data, September on sustainable development and responsible research, October was a festival of data and the 21st RDA plenary meeting was held, and November revolved around research data management support and education.

To culminate the celebratory year, RDA released the document "Celebrating a Decade of Data: The RDA's 10th Anniversary Highlights," summarizing all the events of 2023.

RDA is a global, consensus-based, community-driven organization of over 14,000 individuals, 80 organizational members and over 35 regional networks from 150+ countries, whose mission is to provide a platform to drive innovation surrounding data sharing and interoperability.

In 2019, SRCE became the Croatian national RDA node, working to support the construction of a sustainable and reliable national data infrastructure aligned with FAIR data principles. SRCE has also been actively promoting awareness about the benefits of sharing research data and conducting educational programs for librarians and researchers. The University of Rijeka Library, the National and University Library in Zagreb, the University of Split Library, the City and University Library Osijek, Ruđer Bošković Institute, and the Croatian Science Foundation joined SRCE in RDA activities. One of the more significant results of this collaboration is a handbook about research data management throughout the research data life cycle entitled How to manage research data.
