From 8 to 12 September 2026, the 2nd InnoThyroGen Summer School of Bioinformatics is taking place in Belgrade. This international educational programme is intended for young researchers interested in bioinformatics, statistical genetics and genetic epidemiology.
During the school, participants learn the basics of working with Linux and the R programming language through lectures and practical exercises, and then become familiar with methods for analysing genomic data, including GWAS, polygenic risk scores (PRS), functional annotation, meta-analysis, machine learning and Mendelian randomisation.
SRCE is supporting the implementation of the school by providing computing infrastructure for the practical part. Participants use the Padobran computing resource to run examples and analyses, giving them an opportunity to learn how to work in a Linux environment and use computing resources in a way similar to that of real research projects.
This enables participants to immediately apply the theoretical knowledge they acquire in practice while using infrastructure intended for demanding scientific research tasks. The school is being held as part of the Horizon Europe InnoThyroGen project, an initiative funded by the European Union and focused on developing innovative and personalised approaches to the diagnosis and treatment of thyroid diseases.
