The meeting of delegations from Erasmus University Rotterdam and SRCE was held on 4 and 5 March 2026 at SRCE.
The meeting was organised as part of the second phase of the UNIC project, focusing on the integration of local student information systems with the UNIC Virtual Campus, which SRCE develops and maintains.
Discussions centred on the technical challenges expected during the integration process with the Virtual Campus and how to address them. SRCE has already successfully adapted similar local systems in the field of science and higher education in Croatia, such as the ISVU and Merlin systems.
Participants shared experiences and knowledge with a focus on enabling eduGAIN authentication on local systems – the student management system and the e-learning system – as well as the introduction of the European Student Identifier (ESI) for students in these systems. Other related technical solutions were also discussed, along with further improvements to the systems and cooperation for the benefit of all alliance stakeholders.
The UNIC Virtual Campus is an information system that serves as a catalogue of courses and programmes offered by the alliance. It supports virtual student mobility, ensures recognisability of alliance students’ identities, supports the implementation of joint study programmes, presents research results, and facilitates networking among researchers involved in the alliance.
The system relies on existing international systems and standards, such as participation of all partner universities’ identity providers in the eduGAIN system, the mandatory assignment of the European Student Identifier (ESI) to students, and interoperability with ORCID and OpenAIRE systems.
Special emphasis was placed on interoperability with partner universities’ systems, particularly Student Management Systems, which significantly simplifies work with the Virtual Campus for all alliance participants.
