SRCE at the Horizon Europe Summit 2025: Cities as Living Labs for Innovation

9. 7. 2025.

The Director of SRCE, Ivan Marić, participated in the panel "The Pillars of Modern Research: Understanding ORRI and Open Science", held as part of the Horizon Europe Summit 2025: Cities as Living Labs for Innovation, where he presented how SRCE supports the implementation of open science and the adoption of its principles.

The conference was held on 9 July 2025 in Zagreb, organized by the consulting company StemWise, and brought together leaders from industry, academia, and local government. The focus of the conference was the Horizon Europe programme, through which the European Union provides funding for research and innovation projects. The programme aims to promote scientific excellence, tackle societal challenges such as climate change, and encourage innovations that enhance European industry and strengthen global competitiveness. Over the seven-year period (2021–2027), the programme has a budget of €95.5 billion for companies and institutions.

One of the key topics of the conference was the application of ORRI principles (Open and Responsible Research and Innovation) and the promotion of open science. The panel in which Director Marić participated focused on understanding and implementing the core principles of ORRI and open science, with particular emphasis on the Croatian national ORRI strategy—its development, implementation status, and alignment with broader European initiatives and best practices.

Director Marić emphasized that SRCE, as the central infrastructure institution for the academic and research community in Croatia, enables and supports the implementation of open science and its principles by building and managing the national e-infrastructure.
